VFM Leonardo has posted a video with Forrester's Henry Harteveldt which serves as a beginner's guide on the benefits of online hotel distribution via OTAs, and what is required to benefit the most from your hotel's OTA listings.

Two-thirds of travelers do research on OTAs and similar websites. These sites actually play a much larger role in the travel planning process than merely booking engines – they are often strong lead generators for brand.com and individual hotel websites and serve as gateways to hotel purchase decisions.

These sites are:

- Great sources of discovery, advice and learning for travel shoppers

- Opportunities to show why your hotel is better and why travel shoppers should book with you

- Channels where hotels need to have good written descriptions and the right visual content
