HotelMapSearch.com launches hotel price map

July 29, 2008 | Online Travel

HotelMapSearch.com combines the familiarity, stability and speed of Google Maps with an extensive network of over 70,000 worldwide hotel locations and prices. The Hotel Price Map displays every hotel’s location and average price.

Location and Price, it’s that simple. In the ultra-competitive online travel industry it’s hard to believe that the established contenders don’t have better maps. Not a single major hotel travel site shows prices directly on a map. HotelMapSearch.com fills this void with its patent pending price icons and hotel reservation interface.

Users may refine their hotel map search by:

- Brand
- Price Range
- Star Rating
- Pet Friendly Hotels

Tired of really slow, complicated, or boring mashups? HotelMapSearch.com makes it easy to plan, save and share travel plans with friends and family. Users can save and share their favorite destinations, notes about their trip plans, and lists of their favorite hotel choices. With the map markup interface, users can easily create and share their own professional grade mashups using the additional data layers on HotelMapSearch.com.

Data layers available for mashups include:

- Wikipedia landmarks
- Restaurants with reviews from Yelp
- Airport locations and statistics
- Starbucks locations
- Startup Technology Surpasses Existing Travel Sites

The Hotel Price Map concept was born out of a frustrating travel planning experience for co-founder Lynwood Bishop. “I spent hours trying to find hotels near the Trevi Fountain when planning my honeymoon to Italy. Not being able to see it all visually on a map made the hotel reservation process much more difficult than it needed to be.” After the trip, he & college friend Glenn Kirbo partnered to create HotelMapSearch.com, giving travelers a map with all of the information they need to plan a trip quickly. “Most travel sites only show you a few hotel locations at a time on a tiny map. We wanted to show them all,” explains co-founder Glenn Kirbo. “The existing one-size-fits-all databases were too slow to keep up with our map, so we developed our own scalable solution. Visitors to HotelMapSearch.com can zoom all around the world and the map never stops updating.” The different technologies behind HotelMapSearch.com are now patent pending.
