How to deliver a successful presentation

If you're facing a situation, where a presentation will have a lasting effect on your career, Harvard Business Publishing has some well-tested tactics to employ. Successful implementation of these techniques can help turn the heat of the spotlight into a warm glow.
If you’re a manager seeking to advance into a leadership role in your organization, at some point you’ll need to master the art of giving a successful presentation. Fail at this, and your career could suffer permanent damage.
How can you turn the sizzling heat of the spotlight into a warm, flattering glow? Rehearsal is key, of course. But make sure you rehearse under conditions as close to reality as possible. If you can get into the conference room or hall, rehearse there. If not, approximate it. Why? Surprises during your actual presentation--the lights brighter than you expected, the sound more echo-y, the stage bigger--will flummox you. Dealing with such surprises takes mental energy, which you should be using instead to deliver a sparkling performance.
