Travel industry shows signs of recovery, says Webjet

Australian OTA Webjet has shared that it is "cautiously optimistic" as far as the remainder of the fiscal year goes, mainly on the back of the travel industry starting to show definite signs of recovery.

On Thursday, Webjet posted a 40% hike in its earnings for the year’s first six months to $5.2 Million, and this has been despite the global economic meltdown. The figure is a substantial rise when compared to the $3.7 Million of earnings posted in the previous corresponding period up-to December 31.

Despite the successful figures, and the looming optimism, the company prefers to stay cautious.

“Against this background we are cautiously optimistic for the six months to June 2010 and, although we are not at this juncture providing formal market guidance, we would be disappointed if the profit in this period is not similar to the first half”, the company said.
