Travelocity: No slowdown in summer demand

Summer airfares have jumped 12 percent on average compared to last year, and are up 15 percent over 2006 figures, according to online travel agency Travelocity. Yet, despite the rising costs, there are no big indicators of shrinking demand for travel, the company said.

Summer airfares have jumped 12 percent on average compared to last year, and are up 15 percent over 2006 figures, according to online travel agency Travelocity. Officials for the Southlake-based company said despite the rising costs, there are no big indicators of shrinking demand for travel.
But that doesn’t mean people aren’t making changes. According to Travelocity, travelers are looking for savings by booking packaged trips, looking for drive destinations, and even taking cruises that they can drive to, rather than fly.
