VirtualTourist.com reaches millionth member mark

April 14, 2008 | Online Travel

VirtualTourist.com, one of the largest online travel communities in the worldy, announced today that it has registered its millionth member.

From Copenhagen to Kuala Lumpur, VirtualTourist.com members cover the globe and the announcement of the site’s millionth member this week confirms its place as the premier source of travel information on the Web. Travelers rely on VirtualTourist for the inside scoop on everything from Tuscan villas to bargain hotels to where to get the best burgers in San Francisco.

In addition to its on-line content, the site is also famous for its “real world” get-togethers. These events are free-wheeling gatherings where friends from around the world join in camaraderie. Over the company’s nine-year history, these meetings have included everything from excursions on a Viking ship to a gathering of 200 in Santorini, Greece. While these events are a big hit with members, VirtualTourist general manager, Giampiero Ambrosi is quick to point out that they are only part of what makes the site so vibrant: “There’s no doubt that the meetings are a blast, but the real crux of VirtualTourist is the unbiased advice users have come to rely on. Members know they can ask for advice and in no time have a wealth of detailed, personalized information from fellow travelers.”

With members in 220 countries and territories, there’s not a place on earth “VT’ers” can’t be found; so much so that members often report running into each other at airports, hotels, and restaurants. Members can be distinguished from the general population by their sixth sense for finding the new and different, their desire to rate everything, and their propensity for taking pictures of plates of food. Although the milestone is big, if history is any indication, this is only the latest in a string of milestones for the innovative company.
