It follows a move by AA late last year to try and slash its distribution costs by launching its own distribution system, titled ‘Direct Connect’.

In the lawsuit, AA claims Orbitz and Travelport are collaborating to freeze out sales of the carrier through “exclusionary conduct”. The lawsuit by AA even alleges that Travelport is paying Orbitz to bypass AA’s proprietary system.

Travelport issued a statement today branding the lawsuit as “ludicrous and meritless”. It said AA’s move towards a different distribution model will result in “inefficiencies and considerable added costs ultimately to be paid by consumers”.
