Speaking at an event in Tianjin this week, Airbnb’s head of global operations, Varsha Rao, told the Xinhua news agency that the traditional mould of Chinese travellers is changing, and that Airbnb is capitalising on this shift. “We’ve seen positive signs of a developing sharing economy in China both from the consumers and the government,” she told Xinhua during the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2016. The Shanghai Daily reports that more than two million Chinese have since used the accommodation sharing site while travelling abroad since it launched in China in 2012.
