The Securities and Exchange Commission has accused several brokers and their defunct Boca Raton, Fla., firm of stock manipulation in a case involving Bellevue-based online travel company Expedia Inc. when it was publicly traded.

The SEC filed a federal civil action Feb. 17 against David S. Davidson, Lloyd S. Beirne and Brandon T. Bush, all of Boca Raton, according to a report in the South Florida Business Journal, an affiliated publication.

The trio was charged with fraudulently using non-existent trades to hide a burgeoning short position in the stock of Expedia, which was brought public in 1999 on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol EXPE.
