Ctrip has managed to expand its hotel coverage to more than 800,000 domestic and international hotels. The company has partnered with more than 300 international airlines. The company also has borrowed a few plays from Priceline and is making highly strategic acquisitions in a bid to expand its international reach. Ctrip announced the acquisition of a majority stake in U.K.-based TravelFusion. TravelFusion is a travel distribution system that operates between London and Shanghai. This followed up the company's November tie-up with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, a cruise vacation company that operates more than 40 ships in more than 490 travel destinations. This effectively transformed Ctrip into the world's largest Chinese-based cruise reservation platform. Priceline agreed to invest $500 million in Ctrip in August last year. The partnership will help both companies to cross-promote each other's hotel inventories and travel services. This should give Ctrip good access to Priceline's formidable network of hotels and accommodations and give the company better international exposure (most of Priceline's revenue comes from international hotel bookings).
