“It’s still continuing to grow. I don’t expect that to change anytime soon,” says Kristi White, director of revenue optimization for TravelClick. Through June 2011, the four GDSs generated 28 million bookings globally. TravelClick projected the year-end tally to hit 50 million. That’s a good sign that businesses have and will continue to travel, White said. “The top 500 companies in the United States in the first quarter of the year had (US)$1.9 trillion dollars in cash reserves. … These companies have money. … They’re going to have their people out there selling,” she said. During the past six months, some markets are up 120% in GDS bookings over last year, White said. “It is the truest indicator of how our business is going to look,” she said.
