Hotel Management spoke with Amy Severson, Expedia's director of strategic accounts and industry relations, about how Expedia's data stack up against industry analysis. "When looking at 2011 data, we noticed our ADR for U.S. hotels is up 6.2 percent year-over-year," said Severson. "We had seen at the NYU conference, in Steve Hood's channel distribution study, that ADR growth from the OTA channel was slightly higher than the overall marketplace. If hoteliers can use our marketplace to secure a really nice base, that allows them to raise rate as the consumer books closer in." The difference between Expedia ADR for all stayed bookings, compared with ADR reported by industry research firms, demonstrates how the Expedia marketplace differs from other channels in terms of property types booked and booking window patterns, among other factors.
