Expedia plans to lay off 326 employees in a move related to the online travel company's recent $1.9 billion acquisition of competitor Orbitz, according to documents obtained by Puget Sound Business Journal. The Bellevue-based company confirmed the layoffs last week, but would not release the number of employees it plans to let go. Documents filed with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity show Expedia plans to layoff 40 percent of Orbitz's 804-person workforce within the company's Chicago headquarters. "The layoffs are expected to be permanent, and there is a reasonable likelihood that the number of positions eliminated will reach the threshold for constituting a mass layoff," Orbitz representative Kimberly McCallum wrote in a notice to Illinois' Bureau of Workforce Development.
