China based online travel company eLong, owned 52 percent by Expedia, said its net loss increased in the first quarter to RMB 10.4 million from RMB 9.8 million a year earlier. The company did not give a reason for the loss.

The company’s first quarter travel revenue increased 47% year-on-year, but decreased 5% quarter-on-quarter to RMB 53.3 million, while total revenue grew 53% year-on-year and fell 10% quarter-on-quarter to RMB 58.4 million.

eLong suffered RMB 14.2 million in operating loss in the first quarter, compared to an operating loss of RMB 15.5 million the previous year and RMB 14.2 million in the fourth quarter of 2005.

Sales and marketing expenses was RMB 24.5 million, rising by 17 % year-on-year due to increases in business volume and customer acquisition.
