When the GDS’s were deregulated in 2004, they struck agreements with the airlines to maintain the status quo. These agreements are ending, new deals are being struck, and things are getting interesting.

This week, SABRE and Amadeus announced that they would share their airline-provided inventory with each other in the event that an airline decided not to renew with one of them.

This makes good sense for SABRE and Amadeus, as it prevents declining value to travel agents.

But not all airlines are happy with this agreement. American Airlines has indicated it may not renew with all four GDS’s when current contracts expire in 2006.
