Young said revenue managers have a lot of masters to serve. They have to be able to influence a hotel’s food-and-beverage operations, its profit strategy and more. And they have to be able to fill in the knowledge gap that might exist with other top officials at the hotel company. She said it’s not unreasonable for a revenue manager to question executive leaders on their familiarity with revenue management concepts. “It used to be you hit your (revenue-per-available-room) index and everyone goes home in a limo,” she said. “Now it’s more bisected.
