With the start of the ski season just days away, Liftopia, Inc. launched the nation's first discount online marketplace for lift tickets. By selling lift tickets online in advance, Liftopia is able to negotiate deeply discounted prices from its resort partners, sometimes as much as 40 percent off the on-mountain rate.

"Our goal is to align resorts that want to sell more lift tickets with people who want to ski and ride more often," said Ron Schneidermann, Liftopia co-founder. "It's an incredible way for last-minute and date-flexible skiers to save a lot of money, get on the hill more and ski more places. At the same time, we're helping resorts to get more customers on slower days."

Ski resorts can partner with Liftopia and manage their ticket pricing and availability through Liftopia's Web site. Like airfares and hotel rooms sold online, Liftopia's variable "by-day" pricing ability means that lift ticket discounts can change at any time, and some of the deepest discounts are often during the week or at the last minute.

Liftopia's initial resort partners include Kirkwood and Diamond Peak in Lake Tahoe, Mt. Baldy in Los Angeles, Arapahoe Basin and Crested Butte in Colorado, Angel Fire Resort in New Mexico, and Windham Mountain in New York.

"We're really excited to keep bringing new resort partners on board and providing more lift ticket deals as the season goes on. This is definitely just the start," adds Liftopia co-founder Evan Reece. "We understand that this is a new type of business in the ski industry, but we're confident that Liftopia is a win-win for both resorts and skiers and riders. We're looking forward to proving that."

Liftopia's founders are avid skiers who spent many years in the online travel industry, working with hotels to sell their excess inventory online. They've taken these principles and applied them to an area where both are passionate -- skiing. Based in San Francisco, they spend most of their time on the slopes in Lake Tahoe but have skied everywhere from New England to Canada to Europe.
