Global revenue for the total online travel booking segment is US$178.8 billion in 2016, which is expected to grow to $288 billion by 2021. The report looks into three categories: hotels, vacation rentals and package holidays. It excludes price comparison and recommendation websites without a check-out process and offline travel booking by telephone or at a travel agent’s office. In the future all three segments are tipped to take a significant share of today’s offline booking volume thanks to customer benefits such as convenience, access to a wider range of deals, more supporting content and the ability to easily compare prices.
