Overall, Orbitz reported a loss of $4.25 million, or four cents a share, compared with a year-earlier profit of $6.9 million, or six cents a share. Revenue decreased 3.4% to $239.6 million. Excluding currency impacts, revenue was flat. Chicago-based Orbitz is in the process of merging with Expedia Inc. as the travel booking sites face increased competition from new rivals, including Google Inc. The proposed $1.3 billion merger is being reviewed by the Justice Department. The pending deal also is facing resistance from the hotel industry, which has argued that the combined company would control the online booking market and be able to impose higher costs on the industry.
