With New Orleans out of the convention trade for an undetermined time, other cities are moving to fill the void in coming months, juggling their own business and looking to accommodate relocating groups.

"We have to be very sensitive, but we do have a copy of New Orleans' convention calendar and we are engaged," said Ronnie Burt, vice president for convention sales and services at the Baltimore Area Convention & Visitors Association. "We're using this as an opportunity to assist them in their time of need."

New Orleans is one of the nation's most popular convention sites, but with travel there currently impossible and big gatherings unlikely for the foreseeable future, cities are scrambling to step in.
