Several CEOs were quite optimistic about corporate travel and group business, which according to STR is on the rise as 2014 unfolds. “We’re seeing the growth, feeling the growth, (we’re) optimistic as we go into the negotiating season,” said Jonathan Tisch, chairman of Loews Hotels & Resorts. “We see pricing power; we’re starting to talk to our clients in markets where we continue to do well. We are optimistic about where the negotiations will go.” Arne Sorenson, president and CEO of Marriott International, was more direct. “Rates are going up,” he said. “We’ve got another year where occupancy is growing at record levels.
