Platinum Travel, an agency in Louisville, Ky., posts videos, travel advice and promotions on its Facebook page. Russ Dunlap, vice president of the agency, monitors the page, “since it’s mostly my friends,” he said.

The Facebook page has been “somewhat successful,” he told Travel Market Report. He gets a few requests through Facebook messages, but “we seem to get many more requests for travel information from our website.”

Dunlap doesn’t consider it a waste of time, however.

“It is, of course, a very inexpensive way to advertise – free, unless you participate in Facebook ads – and it doesn’t take much time, so any time invested is worth it.”

And, he added, perhaps keeping the Platinum Travel name in front of the Facebook community “doesn’t hurt.”
