Shares of Travelzoo Inc. surged on Tuesday after the online travel-search company said quarterly earnings nearly doubled, led by strong online advertising sales.

Shares of Travelzoo rose as much as 22.6% to $39.73 in morning trading, and were up 19.7% intraday.

"Third quarter 2006 marks our 33rd consecutive quarter of growth in online advertising sales," said Travelzoo Chief Executive Ralph Bartel said in a statement.

Mr. Bartell added that Travelzoo will continue to aggressively pursue the strategy of duplicating its business model in European markets, where revenue rose 30% to $963,000 during the quarter.
