Land-based vacation packages are making a strong resurgence, tourism officials said Monday at the Travel Retailing and Destination Expo at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

Locally and across the nation, travel agents are pitching short trips that are close to home, where baby boomers and their families can get full satisfaction from their vacation.

"Personal satisfaction is the big thing for that demographic," said Danielle Courtenay, vice president of public relations for the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Here in Orlando, for the slow months of September and October, we're pitching drive-to vacations that cater to niche markets."
