Worldspan sent out a notice last week reminding travel agents that it was encouraging them to make their distribution decisions by Aug. 18.

Worldspan said that when it announced its two new optional distribution products - Super Access Product and Subscription Access Product - would soon be available, it had urged agents to make their product choice as soon as possible.

The notice encouraged agents to return contracts by Aug. 18 or sooner to ensure that their selection is processed and in effect before Sept. 1, when the new plans go into effect.

Worldspan reminded agents that four major U.S. airlines (American Airlines, Continental Airlines, United Airlines and Northwest Airlines) have announced that on Sept. 1, they will begin implementing airline content fees for bookings that are processed in non-preferred channels.

Each of these airlines is a Program Airline that participates in Worldspan's new optional distribution products. In Worldspan's original announcement describing the optional distribution products, it told agents that if they do not make a choice, they will by default continue to use the General Access Product. That notification said that agents could change their product selection at any time "subject to the terms and conditions that are in effect at that time."
