As many as 1.3 million holidaymakers will be unable to fly into Spanish destinations this autumn and winter due to the Thomas Cook collapse.

This will result in at least 500 hotels being shut down, generating losses to the tourism sector running into hundreds of millions of euros, according to the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation.

The Spanish government previously announced a package of measures worth €300 million, including emergency credit lines and a reduction in airport fees, particularly for hubs in the Balearic and Canary islands.

Booking Holdings’ decision followed the departures of fellow founding members MasterCard, Visa, Paypal, eBay, and Stripe, according to published reports.

The Connecticut-based online travel company, which generated $9.2 billion in revenue in 2018 and has the world’s largest business selling accommodations, wanted to avoid the controversy that’s developing around Libra, a source said.

That controversy includes pushback from regulators in the U.S. and France. Regulators have argued that Libra, a project initiated by Facebook that would be run through the Libra Association, could contribute to undermining the global economic system.

Booking Holdings hasn’t ruled out getting involved anew with the Libra Association in the future, the source added.

The rapid growth of Chinese tourism took a bit of a breather during the latest week-long National Day holiday, government data indicate.

The seven-day vacation from Oct. 1 to Oct. 7 is dubbed “Golden Week” and is one of the few major government-mandated holidays in a country where personal vacation days are few.

This year’s National Day was particularly significant domestically since it revolved around massive celebrations on Oct. 1 for the 70th anniversary of the Communist Party’s rule.

Chinese tourist sites received 782 million visits during the holiday, up well over 7% from last year’s 726 million, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. But, that’s slower than reported growth of more than 9% in 2018, and down from a 10% increase in 2017.

Nowadays, not displaying customer reviews in hotel search is one move that can end up with high costs for a business.

This is because the large majority of modern travelers read and consider reviews before making a booking decision. If you decide to leave out guest reviews, users will easily go from your page to another one that includes them.

Keep in mind that 99% of travelers look at reviews during their hotel search and 68% of travelers look at more than 6 reviews, so the demand is there and it is definitely strong.

What kind of reviews work best, and what do travelers prefer and what do they respond to best when searching for an accommodation.
