US lodging performance continued to experience headwinds in July, characterized by anemic RevPAR growth.

Second quarter results came in significantly below expectations - with ADR levels up 1.2 percent, and occupancy levels down 0.1 percent, resulting in a tepid RevPAR increase of 1.1 percent.

Mitigating a steep decline in group occupancy levels was mild growth in transient demand, as well as strong growth in the contract segment. Between flattening occupancy and an overall lack of pricing power, RevPAR grew at a modest level, as hotels traded occupancy for rate.

Since travel is a search-heavy vertical, eMarketer foresees travel advertisers continuing to rely on search ads to reach consumers.

Search is not only crucial for travel advertisers, search engines also have dedicated products for the travel industry, making it foundational for travel advertisers to have a presence on search.

Combined with rising competition and a strong economy, travel companies are compelled to increase their ad budgets to capture a larger market share.

In the US, travel is the sixth-largest industry in terms of ad spending, according to eMarketer's latest estimates. Digital ad spending on travel will grow 21.4% to $10.86 billion this year. Next year, ad spending is forecasted to grow 19.3% to $13 billion.

Hilton Hotels & Resorts released new survey findings uncovering the travel highs and lows for young professionals, ages 23-35, who attend meetings while on the road.

The survey revealed that while young business travelers prefer a buzzing social environment and in-person interactions during regular work hours, they would rather spend their evenings on their own.

Hilton previously conducted research unveiling that business travel is a major work perk among this group. This year, the findings focused on what truly influences and shapes young professionals’ experience on the road, including their preferences in dining, workspaces and how they blend personal interests with professional requirements.

The research identified that 84 percent of young business travelers say that they cherish their alone time during business trips, and nearly three-fourths (73 percent) report that they have a better experience when they spend downtime on their own.

Choice Hotels has contacted customers following a data breach said to involve 700,000 customer records.

In a statement, the company said the breach was due to a third-party vendor who "copied the impacted data from our environment without authorization" and moved it to its server.

Choice went on to say that, in the process, the third party's server was accessible from the internet for a few days.

Choice said that while much of the data was fake, some guest information such as names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses was included in the data.

Net Affinity shares 18 tips together that will help you get more bookings and, in turn, more revenue.

Consider this: after searching for a hotel for a family holiday, your guest has narrowed the search down between 2 hotels. Yours is one of them.

If they see what’s special, unique or compelling to them about your hotel, they’re much more likely to book. If not, or in other words if your value proposition is ‘weak’, you’ll lose their attention and it’s bye-bye ‘would’ve been, could’ve been’ guest.

Don’t underestimate the importance of outlining exactly what your hotel has to offer, what makes it uniquely great! It’s an essential way of getting more bookings.
