As business travelers have become increasingly mobile, Lola.com’s mission is to completely transform the landscape of corporate travel management.

Business customers continue to be a huge target for the travel industry, and today a startup has raised a tidy sum to help it double down on the $1.7 trillion opportunity. Lola.com - a platform for business users to book and manage trips - has raised $37 million to continue building out its technology and hire more talent as it takes on incumbents like SAP targeting the corporate sector.

Co-founded by Paul English and Bill O’Donnell - respectively, the former CTO/co-founder and chief architect of the wildly successful consumer travel booking platform Kayak - Lola originally tried to fix the very thing that Kayak and others like it had disrupted: it was designed as a platform for people to connect to live agents to help them organise their travel.

The UK hotel outlook this year remains flat as a surge in room supply, slowing global and UK economic growth is expected to provide a challenging environment.

PwC's latest UK Hotels Forecast Update shows that London should still boast high occupancy levels but as high room supply levels impact, occupancy growth this year will be marginal at 0.3%.

Average Daily Rate (ADR) is forecast to continue to see growth with an uplift of 1.4% in London for the next two years taking ADR up £2 to £151 in 2019 and £153 in 2020. Gains in ADR will drive Revenue per available room (RevPAR) growth by 1.7% in 2019, taking RevPAR to £126. In 2020, growth is anticipated to see a further 1.4% rise, taking RevPAR to £128.

When it comes to Facebook and Instagram advertising, both platforms are seen as most effective for targeting new audiences, with Facebook seen as slightly better for driving reach, brand awareness, and personalization. Due to its visual nature, Instagram is perceived as better for showcasing a property or travel experience.

On a global scale, both Facebook (30%) and Instagram (28%) are seen as most effective for targeting new audiences. However, only four percent state that both Facebook and Instagram are effective to engage with loyalty members.

Facebook’s Value Optimization is an ad delivery option that provides a unique approach for clients seeking an alternative optimization method.

Ad optimizations shift based on campaign objectives, market conditions, and target markets, to name just a few reasons.

For example, a hotelier may choose to optimize toward conversions to drive overall bookings for a retargeting campaign, but decide to optimize toward link clicks for an upper funnel campaign.

What is the best method if a hotelier would like to optimize towards a certain type of traveler? This is where Value Optimization comes into play.
